Ellie Kavner is a Consultant Systemic Psychotherapist who has worked with children, young people and adults both individually and as couples and families. As an American living long term in London she trained in both contexts; initially as a social worker than as a family therapist.
Ms Kavner has worked in Child & Adolescent Mental Health settings for many years but has also worked in inpatient hospital settings for Adolescents and private practice.Most recently Ms Kavner was Head of Systemic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic.
Ms Kavner’s special clinical interests have been focused on the impact of high conflict in couples on their own well being and the well being of their children. She worked for many years with families in which there have been child protection concerns and has acted as an Expert Witness in Court proceedings. She also has interests in the impact of migration and cultural diversity on health, transition to parenting with a focus on the couple and the incorporation of mindfulness in clinical practice.
In addition Ms Kavner has an extensive teaching portfolio in relation to the professional training of systemic psychotherapists, management and leadership training and in recent years the development of Early Years Infant Mental Health (the Tavistock Clinic and Anna Freud Centre) Training.
