Dr Vera Baraniecka is an Adult Psychiatrist who worked for many years in the NHS as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Surrey, supervising the care of people with serious mental illness, both in hospital and in the community.
Alongside this work, she also undertook training in Systemic Family Therapy at the Tavistock Centre in order to apply systemic principles to the management of mental disorders in adults, recognising that families have an important role to play in the recovery from mental illness.
Dr Vera Baraniecka has many years of experience in all aspects of the diagnosis and management of psychiatric illness in adults, ranging from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, etc. to neurotic disorders and relationship difficulties. Her expertise includes the prescription of appropriate medication and the supervision of drug therapy, whilst remaining fully aware of any precipitating factors, as well as the family and work context.
Her interests include the problems experienced by women (post-partum depression, menopausal symptoms) and depressive illness at other periods of transition and adjustment in life, such as marital breakdown, redundancy, retirement and physical ill-health. She also has a particular interest in trans-cultural factors as a possible source of stress.
She holds registration as a Section 12 Approved Doctor under the Mental Health Act.
