My Professional Experience:

Having trained in Medicine and Psychiatry in London, I became a consultant in 2001. As such, I have had extensive experience in managing a wide range of psychiatric difficulties from anxiety and phobias to chronic and enduring illness, such as bipolar affective disorder (manic depression) and schizophrenia, both in the community and in an inpatient setting.

My special interests include:

  • Managing the psychiatric difficulties that people with physical illnesses might develop.

I have a special interest and expertise in managing patients who have psychiatric difficulties as a result of HIV, having worked in this field since 1998.

  • Managing the transcultural aspects of mental health problems having worked extensively with peoples of many different cultures in East London.
  • Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder in Adults.

My current work:

I retired from my fulltime NHS Liaison Consultant Psychiatrist post at The Royal London Hospital in East London in 2017 having had a Consultant career in the NHS spanning 17yrs.  I began my private practice in 2011.  I see patients in an outpatient setting during the week and at weekends, enabling me to see patients flexibly and quickly.  I also work in an inpatient setting at Nightingale Hospital in Marylebone.  I work closely and collaboratively with a number of psychologists and psychotherapists.  My experience consists of managing a range of disorders including stress and anxiety disorders including PTSD, mood disorders including depression and schizophrenia, including those disorders comorbid with addictions.  I am skilled in managing patients with psychological difficulties associated with physical illness.  I continue to develop my interest in transcultural psychiatry and use this in my formulations of patients’ difficulties.  I provide assessment and ongoing management of these disorders. I have had extensive experience in working with interpreters and advocates. I have recently developed an interest and expertise in diagnosing and managing adults with Attention Deficit Disorder.

Personal Statement:

I work holistically and collaboratively with patients and have always been very interested in the transcultural aspects of mental health.  I believe that giving ample consideration to the cultural and spiritual aspects of a person`s presentation is essential.  I have had training in using mindfulness and meditation and use this in addition to other strategies to help people manage stress, mental health problems and pain.  I have my own daily meditation practice.  In addition I am very interested in fitness and consider exercise an important part of maintaining good mental health.

In my personal time I have an enduring passion for rock and punk music, and I am also very interested in vintage clothing having a business in selling men’s vintage clothes with my partner.
