Assessing Sociocognitive skills in preschoolers – using the Early Sociocognitive battery (Roy, Chiat & Warwick 2019)

An assessment for preschool children with language and communication difficulties.

.
Interpersonal engagement, joint attention and pretend play are skills and behaviours known to be important for the development of early language and social communication. Assessment of these skills can be difficult and often relies on clinicians‘ subjective observations.Historically, there has been no one tool for evaluating sociocognitive skills directly and systematically.
.
The ESB addresses this gap in providing a standardised and objective measure of sociocognitive skills. The ESB has been developed as a collaborative project between researchers and clinicians and has been published by Hogrefe. The assessment is predictive of later language difficulties and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
